Steve Harvey: A Multifaceted Career Continues to Evolve

At 68, Steve Harvey shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, the multi-hyphenate entertainer seems to be expanding his empire in ways that would exhaust someone half his age.

His latest venture – a just-announced streaming deal with Netflix for a new unscripted series called "Harvey's Heroes" – marks yet another evolution for the comedian-turned-media-mogul. The show, which begins production next month, will feature Harvey highlighting everyday people making extraordinary differences in their communities.

"I've been blessed beyond measure in my career," Harvey told me during a phone interview yesterday. "At this stage, it's about using my platform to lift others up. That's where I find the most joy now."

This new project adds to Harvey's already impressive portfolio, which includes hosting duties on "Family Feud" (now in its 26th season), his nationally syndicated radio show, and various business ventures ranging from his clothing line to his recently launched production company.

What's remarkable about Harvey's career trajectory is how he's managed to stay relevant through multiple entertainment eras. From his stand-up beginnings in the 1980s to his sitcom success in the 1990s, and then reinventing himself as a game show host and relationship guru in the 2000s and 2010s, Harvey has demonstrated an uncanny ability to evolve with the times.

"Steve Harvey's appeal lies in his authenticity," explains Lisa Anderson, an entertainment analyst at Variety. "He doesn't try to be someone he's not – and that honesty resonates across generations and demographics."

His impact extends beyond entertainment. The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation has provided mentorship to thousands of young people, and his annual entrepreneurship summits have helped countless small business owners – particularly within the Black community.

Not that Harvey's career has been without controversies – from his infamous Miss Universe gaffe to occasional comments that have sparked backlash on social media. But these setbacks have never defined him, partly because of his willingness to acknowledge mistakes and move forward.

As Harvey enters what would be retirement age for many, he instead appears to be entering a new phase focused on legacy-building. With his children now involved in various aspects of his business empire (his son Broderick recently took over as CEO of Harvey Global), he's clearly thinking about the long-term impact of the brand he's built.

"I'm just getting started," Harvey insists with his characteristic laugh. Coming from anyone else, that might sound like typical celebrity hyperbole – but with his track record, you'd be foolish to doubt him.
